Give the Guest Bath a little Pretty

I'm guilty of neglecting the guest bathroom. Since I rarely go in there, it's sort of an "out of sight, out of mind" situation. But some friends are going to be staying with me soon, so I wanted to spruce it up a bit.

I went to HomeGoods and picked up three glass apothecary jars. I really like the look, and you can find them anywhere.

I started looking for small soaps to fill one of the jars, but small soaps are expensive, y'all! Then I remembered this:

Bag 1 of 3

I used to have a job where I traveled. A lot. In fact, I was only home for 8 full days in the fall of 2007. Needless to say, I accumulated a lot of hotel soaps that I saved. I always meant to do something with them for guests, but they just stayed in a grocery sack under the cabinet. So I unwrapped all the soaps, and they looked really nice - they were all creams and whites and pale greens, and the shapes all sort of went together. I filled the second jar with the nice-looking shampoos, conditioners and lotions, and the third got a couple handfuls of cotton balls.

Now I've got a pretty, functional guest bath space, I've used a large chunk of the products I gathered on the road, and my guests don't have to feel guilty about using "the nice soap." Do you have a bag of hotel soaps hiding somewhere? Put them to use!

  1. You're so brilliant! And why do I ALWAYS take the shampoos and soaps from hotels? I have a similar bag. I guess it's always good back up. I like the jars. Good job. Next stop, my house. I need inspiration.

  2. This looks really cute! Would love to copycat this... but I NEVER travel!!! I suppose leftover Dial chips wouldn't have the same effect, huh?!? ;-P
