Wayfarers On, Baby*

The appeal of the Ray-Ban Wayfarer is one that alluded me until recently. An '80s staple, they seemed more "Pretty in Pink" than "chic." Even though they've been spotted on countless celebrities recently, I wasn't quite into them. But the more I saw them on "real" people, the more my opinion changed.

Even though I am and always will be a Ray-Ban Aviator gal, I'm considering expanding my sunglasses collection to include a pair of Wayfarers. What do you think? Love them or hate them? Safe Katy thinks that basic black is the way to go, but would a colored pair be more fun? Or would I never wear them? I don't know. Your suggestions are appreciated.

*Bonus points if you caught the Don Henley reference.

  1. You have good taste, Katy. First the Rainbow sandels, then Ray Bans. I am impressed.

I'd say follow the safe Katy this time just to lessen the pain of switching from the aviators. Once you're comfortable in the black Wayfarers, then you can get crazy with colors!

  2. Sorry to say, but I totally do not like the Wayfarers...at all. It's too "in"...I mean all of the sorority girls having matching pairs!

But, if you're going to do it...I say be different...go with LOTS of color...you can pull it off!

  3. I am a fan of Wayfarers. However, I am not a fan of paying that much for a trend. I have a pair of black "faux" Wayfarers that costed me $12 from Target and another fun colored pair from Forever 21. That way you can test it out, see how much you love them, and then decide that you want to upgrade to the real deal. I have learned to invest money in the classics and spend less on the trends. They might still be hip next year, or they might not.

  4. I've been tempted by the Wayfarers myself, but just can't break down and do it. I say go for it, though. I dig the honey colored ones; different, but still subtle. Ok, off to try and get boys of summer out of my head.

  5. I have been wanting a pair of wayfarers for a loooong time. They have been on my Christmas, birthday, and...4th of July? lists ;) I have my eye on the tortoise ones, but I like the all black ones too!

p.s. - My Ray Ban Aviators haven't left my face since I purchased them a few years ago :)

  8. Um, thanks, but no thanks. I think I'll stick with my Costas. Those look like those cheapo sunglasses the UA AGDs ordered for their Freshmen a few years ago with AGD all over it.
